I wrote about my name, and how it caused me trouble while crossing the Jordan River, on my Substack! https://jordandenariduffner.substack.com/p/whats-in-a-name-stories-of-interrogation

I love Onomastics! Whenever I hear someone has a baby i immediately look up its meaning. Or if I am trying to encourage someone i’ll look it up too and share it with them.

My name is Benjamin Blaise Ziemann.

Benjamin= son of my right hand.

Blaise=to stutter.

Ziemann=one who is famous for his victory.

So I take it to mean. God is pleased for making me, I struggle and have some limitations(bipolar) that are out of my control, but i’ll have victory in this life and that will give more credit to God.

My son’s full name means “the greatest, warlike/warrior, one who is famous for his victory.” See if you can figure that one out 😀. It wasn’t planned like that but is just the way it naturally came out. It is pretty epic.

Felici, because my father was named Felix and I was born when he was in Germany during World War ll.

I’ve always felt like my name means happiness.

Joseph - “He will increase.” I take this to mean that God will increase… Increase my faith more specifically, because that was the prayer of my reversion “ Lord increase my faith.”

And in a looser way, I also see how God has spoiled me throughout my life, making it blatantly obvious in what direction he wants me to go.

Zina is a nickname that was created in high school but I really didn’t use it. When I got to college my roommate had almost the exact same name as mine so one of us had to change. I fortunately had this already formed nickname in my back pocket. Zina stuck, and everyone from then on (since 1992)called me Zina.

I love it... It's so unique. Of course, when I first heard your name, I thought of Xena, Princess Warrior, so in the back of my mind I always think of you as posessing a certain fierceness.

I am probably not so fierce as I was before. Yeah, it’s a nice name that’s memorable enough, easy to pronounce when seen, etc.
